Carpenter

Reporting Relationship: The carpenter will report directly to the assigned Project Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None, unless acting in an Assistant Foreman capacity during the absence of the Project Forman.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Is able to work efficiently in a crew.

• Can adequately perform the basics of rough framing, sheeting, drywall, roofing and siding.

• Works within the limits of a carpentry crew.

• Has the basic ability to read and understand construction drawings and schedules to complete framing and finishing tasks.

• Has the ability in instruct and train lesser-qualified workers in a crew.

• Install framing that is plumb, level and true.

• Install windows, pre-hung doors and simpler door hardware.

• Install finish work that is both clean and true.

• Install concrete forms that are straight and true that are well braced.

• Works within the limits of a carpentry crew and can complete individual tasks under supervision.

• Practices safe work habits and maintains good jobsite housekeeping.

• Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 75lbs.

• All other duties as assigned.

Work Performance:

• Follow directions and is able to work with little supervision.

• Less than 5% of all work put in place requires corrective measures.

Commercial Construction Foreman

Reporting Relationship: The Project Foreman will report directly to the assigned Project Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages all field personnel assigned to work on his job. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities also include planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The termination of all employees is handled by the Company. Those employees in direct violation of company policy and procedures may be removed from the job site by the Foreman.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Meets with Project Manager as needed to review the scope of work for each new job. Apprises assigned Project Manager of the status of any assigned job in progress.
• Determines manpower, materials, and equipment needed to complete each phase of job in an efficient manner in conjunction with assigned Project Manager. Notifies Project Manager of any shortages or slippage in the schedule that will negatively impact final job completion and/or job costs.
• Coordinates job site operations to facilitate attaining job budgets with efficient use and scheduling of manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors while maintaining satisfactory customer relations.
• Identifies areas in which reductions or efficiencies can be made and implements appropriate actions. Implements any corrective action as may be directed by assigned Project Manager.
• Participates in monthly margin review process with Project Manager.
• Implements directives to subordinates outlining policy, program or operational changes.
• Responsible for the successful completion of each job per contract requirements and within estimated profit projections. Develops specific strategies to accomplish job goals and objectives. Seeks additional support from assigned Project Manager as needed.
• Delegate responsibilities and individual projects to the crew.
• Resolve conflicts or miscommunication that may happen on-site quickly and amicably.
• Responsible for work quality, completing contracted obligations, and maintaining call backs to acceptable levels (includes subcontractors’ work, too).
• Initiates additional work orders (change orders) and procures written verification from the customer prior to work commencing and/or secures approval from the office.
• Completes daily report(s) and other necessary paperwork according to company procedure.
• Oversee and ensure all safety rules are being followed. Promotes safe driving, operating, and providing proper maintenance of company owned/leased equipment. Ensures the proper operation, maintenance, and security of all equipment on the jobsites.
• Develops and maintains operational lines of communication to facilitate efficiency. Acts in a way that promotes teamwork among colleagues and management staff.
• Monitors standard operational and working practices and supervises workers to ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety standards. Maintains good housekeeping on job site.
• Strives to improve skills continuously. Takes advantage of company offered training sessions or other outside learning sources.
• Acts in a way that promotes organization in the workplace.
• Develops and maintains good customer relations.
• Follows company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Promotes teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.

Work Performance:

The Commercial Construction Foreman will be evaluated specifically on the following factors:
• Completes all required paperwork accurately and timely.
• Maintains per job costs not to exceed 3% of estimated figures while attaining timely completion. Recognizes potential cost overruns early and takes appropriate corrective action to minimize the impact of the overrun.
• Ensures that the quality of the work meets Company standards.
• Implements and enforces the jobsite safety program to maintain EMR rating at an acceptable level.
• Assists assigned Project Manager with accurate monthly margin reviews of on-going projects on a timely basis.
• Conducts annual performance review of subordinate employees within two weeks of due date.
• Ensures that good housekeeping is maintained on the jobsite.
• Maintaining good customer relations.
• Participates in weekly toolbox meetings.
• Attends monthly safety meetings.

Experience & Qualifications:
• Minimum of eight years of experience in construction industry with at least five years of direct industry and three years of previous supervisory experience is desirable.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to manage all types of people and maximizes use of all people assets. Excellent skills in dealing with a variety of customers. Able to understand and interpret a variety of blueprints. Excellent carpentry skills and good mechanical aptitude.

Commercial Construction Superintendent

Reporting Relationship: The Superintendent will report directly to the assigned Project Manager and Construction Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages all field personnel assigned to the project. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities also include planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The termination of all employees is handled by the Company. Those employees in direct violation of company policy and procedures may be removed from the job site by the Superintendent with the authorization of the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Strong organizational skills and time management.
• Oversees, directs and coordinates all aspects of the completion of construction projects from start to finish.
• Reviews all plans and specifications for constructability and construction schedules, and advise the project team of issues or deficiencies.
• Prepare, manage and update the detailed project schedule with sequence and activity duration on a regular basis.
• Schedule and conduct all project start up meetings with sub-contractors.
• Establish the Punchlist process and close-out procedures with the Project Manager.
• Maintain a zero Punchlist.
• Schedules and procures tools and equipment necessary for the project.
• Manages, coordinates and supervises subcontractors, keeping track of each contractor’s activities verbally and through written documentation.
• Ability to communicate with project owner, discussing project progress and answering questions, and always keeping the Company in a positive position to the owner and his representatives

• OSHA 30 certification preferred or minimum OSAH 10.

Commercial Steel Estimator / Project Manager

Job Description Summary: The Commercial Steel Estimator / Project Manager is responsible for implementing appropriate sales strategies and tactics that lead to a favorable position for the Company. Along with estimating, this position serves as a Project Manager on all successful bids and is responsible for the financial performance of those assigned jobs.

Reporting Relationship: The Estimator / Project Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Development. Supervisory Responsibilities: None directly as Estimator. As Project Manager, manages any Project Superintendents / Foremen assigned to work on his jobs in conjunction with the Construction Manager. Carries out any supervisory responsibilities in accordance to the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities also include planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Makes it well understood that the customer is the first priority and acts in such way to support that priority to maximize the benefit to the company.
• Conducts all dealings on behalf of the company with the highest ethical standards and moral integrity.

Estimator:

• Acts as primary Estimator for targeted customers and on targeted projects.
• Performs the estimating, value engineering, and selling of design / build projects.
• Plans, develops, and implements specific sales strategies in conjunction with the President that maximizes the benefits to the Company to ensure that sales goals are met.
• Solicits enough bid activity to support the attainment of new order and sales goal.
• Solicits and documents prices from material and equipment vendors as required.
• Makes appropriate notations regarding product availability, etc. and includes any appropriate exclusions or conditions in the bid proposal.
• Utilizes information extracted from vendors to assess the competitive situation of the bid and informs the President of such.
• Reviews specifications, conducts, and documents detailed and accurate take-offs according to the specifications.
• Obtains approval of any unusual or high-risk requirements with President prior to developing the final cost estimate.
• Keeps abreast of new products, cost benefits, and incorporates into projects to maximize the benefit to Company.
• Analyzes actual field productivity as compared to estimated productivity and adjusts estimating rates accordingly.
• Reviews all estimates in excess of $500,000 with President prior to customer submittal.
• Ensures that all price quotations are submitted to customers on a timely basis (per customer requirements).
• Ensures that final contract between T-Ross Brothers Construction and owner protects the interests of T-Ross Brothers Construction.

Project Management:

• Acts as main liaison between Company and customer from initial contact and after award of contract through to job completion and warranty duration.
• Develops and maintains good customer relations and ensures the customer is left with a positive lasting impression.
• Issues contracts to subcontractors and purchase orders to vendors that protect the interests of T-Ross Brothers Construction while ensuring that contract obligations are met.
• Manages the submittal process.
• Provides direct on-going support from initial planning throughout job duration and assists the Project Superintendents / Foremen with change orders, schedule updates, costs to date, estimated costs to complete, etc. on an as needed basis.
• Develops specific strategies with job Project Foremen to maintain budgetary requirements and organizational objectives.
• Responsible for the successful completion of each job within profit projections.
• Conducts formal monthly margin review process with Project Foremen and submits estimated final costs of each assigned project to Bookkeeper in timely manner.
• Ensures that Project Foremen are enforcing safety standards and high-quality work standards on assigned projects.
• Ensures accurate and timely billing of all contracts and change / additional work orders in conjunction with the Bookkeeper. Settles all disputed invoices in a timely manner.
• Manages final close out of designated projects.

Work Performance:

The Estimator and Project Manager will be evaluated specifically on the following factors:
• Ensures that the project paper trail from start to finish minimizes the risk and protects the interests of the company.
• Maintains as sold gross margin sales goals to within at least 90% of estimated forecast figures on a quarterly and annual basis.
• Maintains excellent customer relations and corporate image and leaves customers with a positive last impression.
• Develops cost estimates that have an accuracy rating of 98% based on specifications and actual job conditions.
• Establishes Schedule of Values to enable the project to be in an overbilled status until at least 90% complete and meets billing schedule requirements each month.
• Provides proper support to field operations throughout project duration.
• Conducts accurate monthly margin reviews of assigned jobs with Project Foremen and submits to Bookkeeper in timely manner.

Experience & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in a business, engineering, or marketing discipline from an accredited four-year college or university is desirable. Four years of project management experience may be substituted for college.

Experience: Minimum ten years experience in construction industry with at least seven years of direct industry experience. At least three years of project management experience and at least three years of estimating experience in the building industry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication:
• Able to read, analyze and interpret plans and specifications, blueprints, and trade journals. Able to write clear, concise reports, proposals, business correspondence and procedures. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished– written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, vendors and the general public. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to manage all types of people and maximize use of all people assets.
• Utilizes effective negotiating and persuasion skills.

Crane Operator

Reporting Relationship: To be determined.

Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position at this time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions.
• Plan and lay-out for crane operators work.
• Read and understand plans, specifications, operators’ manuals, safety manuals, and load capacity charts. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Fill out OSHA approved Mobile Crane Periodic Safety Inspection Record daily.
• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
• Observe functioning of equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, repair or replacement.
• Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.
• Operators must be thoroughly familiar with crane control functions. Operate crane to lift and move materials and other objects; plan all lifts; proper use of capacity charts; perform daily equipment inspection; respond accordingly to both hand and verbal commands; observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property; listen to warning alarms and respond accordingly; read boom angle and drum rotation indicators.
• Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).

Electrician

Job Description Summary: The electrician is responsible for the electrical installation in commercial and residential projects, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems.

Reporting Relationship: The Electrician reports to the Construction Manager. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Able to read and interpret documents and blueprints.
• Assemble, install and test, electrical wiring and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for and to ensure compliance with codes.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
• Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
• Follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
• Install ground leads and connect power cabling. 
• Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
• Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
• Work from ladders and scaffolds to install or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
• Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications. 
• Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
• Practices safe work habits and maintains good job housekeeping.

Estimator / Project Manager

Job Description Summary: This position provides the necessary estimating, sales, and project management functions of assigned projects for the company. Implements appropriate sales strategies and tactics that lead to a favorable position for the Company. Serves as Project Manager on all successful bids and is responsible for the financial performance of those assigned jobs.

• Conducts formal monthly margin review process with Project Foremen and submits estimated final costs of each assigned project to Bookkeeper in timely manner.
• Ensures that Project Foremen are enforcing safety standards and high-quality work standards on assigned projects.
• Ensures accurate and timely billing of all contracts and change / additional work orders in conjunction with the Bookkeeper. Settles all disputed invoices in a timely manner.
• Manages final close out of designated projects.

Work Performance:

The Estimator / Project Manager will be evaluated specifically on the following factors:
• Ensures that the project paper trail from start to finish minimizes the risk and protects the interests of the company.
• Maintains as sold gross margin sales goals to within at least 90% of estimated forecast figures on a quarterly and annual basis.
• Maintains excellent customer relations and corporate image and leaves customers with a positive last impression.
• Develops cost estimates that have an accuracy rating of 98% based on specifications and actual job conditions.
• Establishes schedule of values to enable the project to be in an overbilled status until at least 90% complete and meets billing schedule requirements each month.

Experience & Qualifications:

Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in a business, engineering, or marketing discipline from an accredited four-year college or university is desirable. Four years of project management experience may be substituted for college. Experience:
• Minimum ten years of experience in construction industry with at least seven years of direct industry experience. At least three years of project management experience and at least three years of estimating experience in the building industry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication:
• Able to read, analyze and interpret plans and specifications, blueprints, and trade journals. Able to write clear, concise reports, proposals, business correspondence and procedures. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished– written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, vendors and the general public. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Excavator & Heavy Equipment Operator with CDL

Reporting Relationship: The Excavator & Heavy Equipment Operator reports directly to the Construction Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position at this time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Operates heavy equipment of various sizes in a safe and effective manner.
• Ability to run excavation projects with use of excavators, dozers, compact track loaders, dump trucks, etc.
• Ability to interpret all aspects of landscaping and grading plans, read blueprints and elevations correctly.
• Perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material or other manual labor duties as assigned.

• Install valley flashing, including hanging valleys, chimney flashing, roof to roof and roof to wall flashings.
• Install finish work that is both clean and true.
• Install other forms of roofing that might coincide with Bend-Fab metal roofing, shingles, slate, and rubber.
• Works within the limits of a roofing crew and can complete individual tasks under supervision.
• Has a strong level of ability in reading and understanding construction drawings and schedules to complete roofing and accessory installation.
• Has the ability to schedule material and labor on a daily basis to maintain production of a three to five person crew.

Structural Steel Worker

Job Description Summary: Responsible for laying out and fabricating structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel, interprets blueprints, and works with concrete reinforcing steel bars.

Reporting Relationship: The Structural Iron Steel Worker/Erector reports directly to the Structural Steel Foreman. Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position at this time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.
• Cut, position, and bolt down steel bars to reinforce concrete.
• Repair older infrastructure.
• Make, weld, and cut structural metal in fabricating shops.
• Erect steel frames.
• Direct operation of cranes to move structural steel, reinforcing bars, and other materials onto and around the construction site.
• Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.
• Drill holes into steel for bolts.
• Number steel according to assembly instructions.
• Unload and stack steel.
• Attach cables to steel and then to the crane.
• Hoist steel into place in the framework.
• Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
• Work with driftpins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
• Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.
• Monitors standard operational and working practices and supervises oneself and other workers to ensure compliance with the Company’s safety policies and procedures and OSHA industry standards.
