 About the Danville Business Alliance (DBA)

The Danville Business Alliance (DBA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nationally affiliated Main Street organization dedicated to the economic revitalization and promotion of downtown Danville, PA.  DBA works closely with business owners, community leaders, and local government to foster a vibrant, thriving commercial district through strategic planning, business development, marketing, and event coordination.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the chief administrator of the DBA, responsible for the implementation of the organization's Main Street program, strategic initiatives, and daily operations.  The Executive Director leads efforts to strengthen the local economy, enhance the historic downtown, and promote Danville as a premier destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.

As with any leadership role in a dynamic nonprofit, this position requires flexibility and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.  The Executive Director may be called upon to assist with tasks and initiatives beyond those listed to ensure the ongoing success of the organization and the vitality of downtown Danville.

The ideal candidate will e a visionary leader with experience in economic development, nonprofit management, marketing, and event planning, with a passion for supporting small businessnes and our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizational Leadership & Administration
  • Oversee the implementation of the Main Street Four-Point Approach (Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization).
  • Develop and manage the organization's annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability through events, grants, sponsorships, and fundraising efforts.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of committees, volunteers, and staff.
  • Act as the primary liason between DBA and key partners, including business owners, government officials, and community organizations.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Board of Directors and ensure compliance with all DBA policies and bylaws.        

Economic & Business Development

  • Work with business owners, property owners, and developers to recruit and retain businesses in downtown Danville.
  • Assist businesses with grants, funding opportunities, and economic development resources.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance upper-floor development, promote mixed-use properties, and activate underutilized spaces.
  • Support real estate and infrastructure projects that enhance Danville's downtown appeal.

Marketing, Promotion & Events

  • Develop and execute marketing and branding strategies to promote Danville's downtown as a shopping, dining, and cultural destination.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee signature DBA events, such as Spring Fling, Fall Arts & Crafts Festival, Heritage Festival, and holiday promotions.
  • Manage digital and traditional marketing efforts, including social media, website content, press releases, and promotional materials.

Design and Beautification

  • Oversee initiatives to enhance the visual appeal of downtown Danville, including facade improvements, streetscape enhancements, and public art projects.
  • Work with property owners to encourage historic preservation and architectural improvements that align with Danville's character.
  • Collaborate with the Danville Borough, Penn DOT, and other partners on beautification projects such as landscaping, lighting, wayfinding signage, and outdoor seating.
  • Seek and manage grants and funding opportunities for streetscape improvements and building renovations.
  • Lead and suppoirt the Design Committee, ensuring that design initiatives align with the Main Street vision and community needs.
  • Oversee seasonal decorations, banners, flower planters, and other aesthetic enhancements that create a welcoming and vibrant downtown environment.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Foster collaborative relationships with businesses, community organizations, and local government to advance downtown initiatives.
  • Represent DBA at public meetings, community forums, and statewide PA Downtown Center and Main Street functions.
  • Serve as an advocate for small businesses, providing resources, guidance, and support to enhance their success.        
  • Build and maintain a strong volunteer network to support DBA events and projects.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Public Administration, Economic Development, nonprofit management or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience in a Main Street organization, economic development, nonprofit management, community development, or a related field.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, budgeting, financial management, volunteer management, marketing, and public-private partnerships.
  • Strong understanding of the Main Street Four-Point Approach and downtown revitalization strategies.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and capable of functioning independently.
  • Exceptional communication, public speaking, organizational, problem-solving abilities and relationship-building skills.       
  • Proficiency in marketing, social media, event planning, Office software and QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of historic preservation, zoning, and urban development trends is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Typical work hours:  Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with some evening and weekend event requirements.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. and tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • Occasional travel is required for meetings, training, or conferences.
